The Honeysuckle Possums are a rollicking harmony-based string band that plays a mix of bluegrass, old-time, and original music. The band’s two lead singers, Susan Marie Reeves (guitar, strum-stick, and ukulele) and Rebecca Troon (banjo, fiddle, bodhran, and tin whistle) are both accomplished songwriters. The band also features Charletta Erb on fiddle, Lisa Macker on upright bass and mandolin, and Ruth Alpert. Ruth, a champion Appalachian-style flat-footer is the band’s dancing percussionist.
The Honeysuckle Possums have played all over California and continue to gain praise for their beautiful vocals, carefully crafted harmonies, and spirited style. They have delighted audiences at the Goleta Old Time Fiddlers Convention, the Good Old-Fashioned Bluegrass Festival, the Parkfield Bluegrass Festival, and Grass Valley Bluegrass Festival. The group’s intention is “to create and share happiness through music”. They exude pure joy onstage, and their performances are carried on a strong current of love and friendship. “Possum” audience members frequently comment on how the positive energy at their shows is irresistible.
The event includes a public jam, with pickers and grinners welcome from 4pm. The Monterey United Methodist Church will host a dinner from 5:30pm-6:30pm. The cost for the meal is $10 in advance and $15 at the door and benefits the church.
Otter Opry has some great music coming up including the Evie Laden Band Friday March 27th 2020.
